Does the price of good quality nut butter put you off buying it?
If so then you could try making your own. It isn't difficult, all you need is a good quality food processor and that is it.
My friend asked me the other day "what do I put it on?"... "a spoon!" I replied.
You can often find me sneaking a spoonful in the afternoon if I get a sugar craving or even truth be told after dinner when I need something and I think it is food, but in fact it is probably sleep!
Here is my recipe for almond butter, but you could use any mixture of nuts or seeds you wish.
2-3 tablespoons mild olive oil or almond oil
1 teaspoon sea salt
Preheat your oven to 180ºC.
Arrange your nuts in a single layer on a baking tray.
Place in the oven to roast for 15 minutes.
Allow to cool slightly, then pour the nuts into your food processor.
Process on high, periodically scraping down the sides.
You need patience here.
Once if forms a fine crumble and is starting to come together, add the oil.
Continue to mix until a butter-like consistency is achieved.
This can take a while so be sure not to over heat your machine.
Pour into a jar and store in your pantry for 2-3 months.
** To make crunchy, simply reserve 100g of nuts and add them at the last minute.
